History of 2GT Timing Belt Pulleys:
The entire world has been transformed by innovative inventions. In the last century, Gates Corporation in the United States revolutionized the field of mechanical power transmission with the invention of V-belts.
They also introduced timing belt pulleys and timing belts, including the GT tooth profile. The GT series of timing belt pulleys and timing belts were invented and designed by Gates Corporation. Due to the limitations of the previous HTD tooth profile in terms of noise, torque, and precision, engineers developed the GT tooth profile.
The specifications range from 1.5GT, 2GT, 3GT, 5GT, to 8GT. In precision equipment and traditional mechanical design fields, 1.5GT, 2GT, and 3GT are the most commonly encountered specifications.
GT-type timing belt pulleys and timing belts have transformed the field of mechanical power transmission since Gates Corporation introduced them in the last century.
Characteristics of 2GT Timing Belt Pulleys:
The 2GT specification is widely used in precision equipment and traditional mechanical design
They belong to the high-precision, medium-torque, low-noise type.
Regarding the tooth profile: GT2 has a trapezoidal tooth profile with a pitch of 2mm, while other GT series (GT3 and others) have a curved tooth profile with a pitch of 3mm.
Production Features and Methods of 2GT Timing Belt Pulleys:
Generally, the production of GT series timing belt pulleys can be divided into two types. The first one is traditional mechanical machining, which involves material cutting, CNC lathe machining, CNC gear hobbing, assembly, and surface treatment.
The second type is for large-scale batch production, which utilizes automatic CNC hobbing machines equipped with gear rolling mechanisms. This allows the teeth to be formed during the machining of the blanks. (The most commonly used is GT2-20 teeth with inner bores of 8mm and 5mm, which are regular components in 3D printers).
However, this machining method is not suitable for small to medium-sized batches since it cannot accommodate products with larger outer diameters.
To achieve high-precision production of 2GT timing belt pulleys, the following requirements need to be met:
- Tooling requirements: The precision of the tools must meet the standards and match the precision requirements of the timing belts.
- Machine tool equipment requirements: CNC hobbing machines, CNC lathes, and other high-end equipment ensure product precision.
- Quality requirements: For precision products, the runout range of the timing belt pulleys should be within 0.03mm to ensure smooth and accurate operation of the equipment.
